My name is Kimnoing. I’m from Kompong Thom province, and my hometown is about 200 kilometers from Siem Reap City. I have one brother and one sister. I’m the first member of my family to get a chance to study at the University. After finishing high school, I got a scholarship from PEPY Empowering Youth Organization to continue my education in Siem Reap starting in 2019. I joined a year’s program at PEPY Learning Center.
The program is about soft skills, information and communication technology, and the English language. In soft skills class, I learned about leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, public speaking, and writing curriculum Vitae. For the Information and communication technology class, I learned about Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel), Video Editing (kind master), and Photo Editing (Canvas). For English class, I learned about general English.
I’m currently completing a bachelor’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Pannasastra University of Cambodia. I’m in my fourth year of this major. Teaching is my passion. It all started when I had the chance to work as a Teaching Assistant at the Anjali House. I loved being able to support the teachers and directly help the students learn. Next, I became a Khmer Language Teacher. This allowed me to share my native language and culture with foreign learners. Then, I worked as a preschool teacher at an international school. Working with young children at a preschool has been my most recent and rewarding teaching experience because adapting my teaching methods to meet the needs of early learners has been a unique challenge, but seeing the joy of understanding the children’s faces makes it incredibly fulfilling.
Through those experiences, I realized that teaching is a part of me. It helps me to share what I have learned and know with people around me. One more thing I enjoy about teaching young children is seeing the excitement on their faces when they learn new things is very rewarding to me.
I’m so excited to be a part of Reach Siem Reap where Reach is working on helping Cambodian family to fight against poverty. Working with children at REACH is the greatest opportunity because it allows me to help them gain their language understanding skills which enhances their education and employment opportunities.
