Ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for our youngest learners is a priority, particularly for guardians who face the difficult challenge of finding secure childcare while they work. At REACH, children transition from high-risk settings, such as construction sites or informal settlements, into a protective, activity-based classroom where they can thrive.
Our curriculum is built on the Let’s Go Starter framework, specifically designed to spark curiosity and capture the short attention spans of our four- and five-year-olds through interactive play. By starting their journey at this level, students gain a vital head start in English and social-emotional readiness. This foundational year ensures they are prepared to transition seamlessly into REACH’s six subsequent educational levels. It opens the door for them to benefit from every integrated program our organisation offers throughout their youth.
Key Learning Areas
In our English classes, students master letter sounds and letter recognition through the Jolly Phonics method, using engaging songs and “word families” to build early reading fluency. Mathematics is taught through tactile experiences, where children use number blocks and fingers to explore numbers up to 20, identify shapes, and practise addition on number lines.
Our Arts curriculum encourages discovery by exploring themes such as nature and future occupations through hands-on crafts. Beyond the classroom, our newest addition, the Kindergarten Garden, allows students to get their hands dirty while learning about soil health and how vegetables grow. Our elective sessions also provide vital life skills, including playground etiquette, scissors safety, and mindfulness activities to help students develop focus.
We recognise that a child’s ability to learn is deeply rooted in their physical wellbeing. To help our students thrive, we provide daily nutritious meals that fuel their development during these critical early years. Beyond nutrition, our Wellbeing Officer facilitates workshops on The Learning Pit, teaching our youngest learners that struggle is a natural part of growth and encouraging them to persevere through challenges. We also closely monitor each child’s health by providing essential hygiene care, first aid, and even new shoes, ensuring they can attend class with the dignity and comfort necessary to succeed.
