In our community, a computer isn’t a household item; it’s a luxury most of our families
have never even touched. While the rest of the world moves online, our kids are being left behind. The barrier starts early: Cambodian public schools don’t introduce computer classes until Grade 10, yet UNESCO and World Bank data shows only 28% of Cambodian youth ever complete upper secondary school. For the vast majority of our students, that means Grade 10, and the chance to learn these skills, never comes at all. Even for those who do stay in school long enough, it usually means three students huddling around one old, broken machine.
Without basic computer skills, breaking the cycle of poverty is almost impossible. Our students are locked out of good jobs before they even get a chance to apply. At REACH, we are bridging this gap. We provide technology, the internet, and training to ensure that a child’s background doesn’t limit their future in a digital world.
Our curriculum is designed to grow with our students, moving from play-based discovery to professional software mastery.
- Explore Levels 1 & 2: These introductory levels focus on self-taught, play-based learning. Students build confidence navigating interfaces and understanding how technology works.
- The 6-Month Typing Intensive: We believe speed and accuracy are the bedrock of digital literacy. Our Remedial Typing sessions use educational games to help students master the keyboard, building the foundation for everything that follows.
- Explore Level 3 & Microsoft Office: Our senior students move into professional applications, learning to create professional documents and spreadsheets that meet international workplace standards.
- Youth Career Apps: The Sala and Trey Visay apps are integrated into our Sunday sessions, allowing our Grade 9–12 students to perform self-assessments and research university scholarships and career paths directly from our lab.
As our students spend more time online, their safety is our top priority. Our team and students complete regular modules on topics like:
- Password Protection & Hacking Prevention
- Identifying Deepfake Scams
- Safe Social Media Navigation
- Online Child Sexual Exploitation (OCSE) Awareness
Through our partnership with CyberPilot, we ensure that while our students are gaining the digital skills to succeed, they are also equipped with the knowledge to stay safe from cyber-criminals.
To keep our lab interactive and well-maintained for our students, we invest in equipment like headphones and professional hardware maintenance. We also take great pride in our “Open Lab” philosophy, sharing our lesson plans and teaching strategies with other local organisations, including the Sala Baï Hotel & Restaurant School, to help improve IT offerings across our wider community.
