Sona Mon

My name is Mon Sona. I am 21 years old. I was born in Siem Reap. I have 9 members in my family, I am the third child. My father is a soldier but now he has retired, and my mum is a seller. My mother didn’t have a chance to go to school, but she really valued the education. Me and my sisters were sent to school, unfortunately when I was in grade 2 because of my family situation so, it required me and my sisters to drop the school.

A year later I went back to school again because there’s an NGO called Taeksentkangtbong community Centre that opened in my village. This NGO really changes my life and other children life which provides us to get the best education we learn English at the NGO and with support of the NGO we also go to Khmer school. Badly the government moved the people in my village to another place which is far from the city and with the Covid-19 pandemic crisis the founder of the NGO decided to close the NGO. I didn’t drop the school because I want to change my family condition and live with a long-life learning. Even the NGO close but the founder keeps in touch with me she introduced me to one of the NGO called Reach I have a chance to get education there and enrolled to be a Youth Pathway student that teach a leadership skill. Then after I graduated from grade 12, I became an Intern at Reach. With support from Reach I applied for the scholarship and passed. After that I go to university learning TEFL (Teacher English Foreigner Language).

Being an Intern at Reach it helps me a lot I learnt so many things such as teaching skill, communication skill, leadership skill and computer literacy, the people around me are friendly and warm welcoming they work from their heart to help the kids and families in the community being one part of Reach it’s been inspired me and motivated me a lot . I have now become one of the staff at Reach.
