In Cambodia, there is a vast disparity between the rich and the poor and many families living in dire poverty, some surviving on less than $1.90USD a day. The World Bank recently reported that only 13.5% of the Cambodian population is living below the poverty line. This poverty line as set by the Cambodian Government is merely US$1.90 cents per day. While this 13.5% is a persuasively small percentage, a vast majority of the remaining population (4.5 million) that sit outside this bracket, only do so by a fraction. This is due to lack of education and subsequent ethical employment opportunities - many missed the chance of a formal education. For many of us, $1.90 would be merely the spare change in the pockets of our jeans as we put them into the washing machine. It is difficult to comprehend that many Cambodian families are struggling to feed their families with that same amount, with nothing left for basic human needs such as healthcare or education.

All of us have been to Cambodia numerous times over the years and seen the effects firsthand. Not being able to travel in recent years due to the pandemic this event enables us to help from any corner of the world. Please help us support this amazing event.

The funds raised from the event will enable REACH to host a variety of integrated programs to combat social issues, by providing poor families with free access to education, nutrition, and healthcare in 2022. These programs provide over 200 children with the tools they need to break the poverty cycle. The Side by Side Ride fundraiser is aiming to raise $100,000AUD. If this target is met 1/3 of Reach’s operating costs will be funded for 2022.
