I first visited Cambodia in 2020 where I ended up getting ‘stranded’ for 8 months during the early part of the COVID pandemic. During that time I was living in Siem Reap and gradually got to know the REACH team by volunteering at their school a few hours each week.

I was moved not only by the overall ambitions of the project but also by the day-to-day attitude of everyone involved. It was certainly one of the highlights of my time in Cambodia. When I finally returned to China towards the end of 2020, my plan was always to go back to visit REACH at the next available opportunity.

Now more than a year has passed and a return trip remains at the planning stage but thankfully the Side by Side ride provides a great alternative to bring the international team closer together as well as a physical means for us to support their community once again.
