In a period that words really cannot begin to describe for so many people, I truly feel the most positive and rewarding thing we can do for our own good is to reach out and help others.

My own year led me to unexpectedly spend March to June in Melbourne, whilst climbing the walls in self isolation I reconnected with an old work colleague, John, who introduced me to a charity he was involved in establishing and we got talking about the bike riding fundraiser planned for January 2021. The whole concept just hit a really strong chord with me.

I’m not particularly active, but had recently bought an exercise bike (at the time of these discussions, used only twice), we visited Cambodia in 2015 where Bohdan completed the Angkor Wat half marathon to support the Cambodian Children’s Fund which was the patron of the paddling club we were members of, so it just felt like a good fit.

Our plan was to join the physical ride in Cambodia, so I am delighted that the team managed to come up with an alternative plan that can still raise the much needed funds for the charity but also allow us a level of participation and to feel involved.

I have signed up, dusted off the bike and started training for my Side by Side 200km ride in January.

REACH is an amazing charity that operates at a very grass roots level and without the overheads often associated. I know so many people already contribute to so many worthwhile causes, but if you are able I would appreciate any support, with all funds going directly to enable REACH to continue such amazing work.
