Recognising the struggle of widespread rural and urban poverty, I wanted to be closely involved with an organisation with clear goals and strategies working towards poverty alleviation. I have been supporting REACH Siem Reap since they opened in March 2020, just days before the government mandated schools closure across Cambodia. As a result, I have seen how their restructuring of programs has impacted over 200 children and their guardians during this devastating time.

For the past 6 months, REACH Siem Reap has been supporting over 100 families with Emergency Relief packs which include rice, eggs, fish cans, sauces, oils, noodles and hygiene supplies. This has been a lifeline to so many families who were already living in abject poverty, which has only been exacerbated by the recent loss of their income.

Most of the families that REACH supports live in unsanitary and unsafe conditions. Many house structures are made up of scrap metal, which insulates the 40 degree searing heat and others have walls of broken down cardboard boxes which are no feat for the monsoon rains. It is these families that REACH is working alongside to break the longstanding poverty cycle and give the children access to free education.

The video below gives an insight into the living conditions of the kids and families that REACH supports, most of which without access to their basic needs.

Having an aligned vision, I thought what better way to spend the anniversary of my 7th year living in Cambodia than to join a group of REACH's inspiring youths and staff members, and cycle 200kms across Cambodia to raise money for the community. The "Side by Side" event will be a once in a lifetime experience for these vulnerable youths who, many of which, have never left Siem Reap and gives them something to look forward to and train towards.

100% of the funds raised will go towards keeping REACH's integrated programs operating for over 100 families in 2021. Please help me to reach my goal!
