In January 2021 I will be participating in the REACH Side-by-Side event by cycling 200 km and raising AUD $500 (DKK 2300 kr.) for the REACH charity to be able to support more than 100 families living in poverty in Cambodia.

Due to COVID-19 and the subsequent loss of tourism, many families have lost their only source of income and are as a consequence living in severe poverty. This means that they cannot afford basic human needs and necessities such as food, clean water, medical/hygiene supplies and an education. Further, the majority of the families living in poverty are being left behind as the socio-economic gap between the rich and the poor in Cambodia grows. These families are forced to survive hand-to-mouth and succumb to exploitative inhumane labor, prostitution and modern-day slavery.

I believe that no one should have to endure this, which is why I believe that the work REACH does is so very important!

Through REACH’s integrated program offerings, they aim to improve the living conditions and quality of life of children, youth and families in the urban slums of Siem Reap. Their focus is on integrated programs revolving around: education, health and nutrition, social outreach, computer literacy and much more.

In 2021 REACH will replace their planned inaugural charity bike ride with a creative fundraising event, so that participant and volunteers from all over the world will be able to help, even though they cannot travel to Cambodia. While I will be cycling 200 km in my hometown Aarhus, in Denmark, the REACH students will be cycling 200 km in Cambodia and other international participants will be cycling in their home countries. This is strengthening the REACH community, as well as providing the students with a life-changing experience - and even though there is a distance between us, we will all be cycling Side-by-Side.

I am therefore now kindly asking you to consider donating and sponsoring me during this charity bike ride. All funds raised will go directly to REACH’s programs, to ensure that they can continue their hard work and provide life changing HELP and HOPE.
