I am reaching out to my network of friends, family and followers to ask for your support for an important cause. REACH Siem Reap is an Australian founded NGO based in Cambodia that offers integrated programs to over 100 impoverished families.

Unfortunately, as COVID-19 hit Cambodia, all schools were mandated to close and REACH was forced to re-strategize to best support their kids and families during this crisis. The repercussions of COVID-19 has affected people globally on so many levels. Unfortunately, the families enrolled at REACH were already living in dire poverty and surviving on approximately $1.50 a day. The loss of tourism as a result of the virus has exacerbated this complex problem, and now so many are living without any form of income or means to provide for their family.

Before COVID-19, REACH Siem Reap was providing daily nutritious meals to all of the students that attended their Education program. REACH will be continuing this program when schools re-open in Cambodia and classes resume so that the students can grow, learn and develop.

REACH has since been providing emergency care packages every month to the families and kids which include rice, eggs, oil, sauces, salt and soap. Without these packages, many hardworking families are at high risk of starvation.

As a part of my ‘Humans of the World’ series, I made this special creation from mashed potato dyed with cocoa powder, bread, black pancake, Quinoa seeds, carrots, brown rice of a 98-year-old survivor of the Cambodian war. Nguon Cchjey's great-grandchildren attend REACH and, as such, his family are supported by the integrated programs.

Every child should have access to nutritious food and not have to worry about when they will eat their next meal.
